happy.mother’s.day

I am blessed with amazing kids, and an amazing wife to mother them!

This post is to honor my wife’s greatness!

She loves them, cares for them, corrects them, laughs with them, cries with them, hurts with them, celebrates with them, teaches them, talks with them, she’s proud of them…and the list goes on.

This Mother’s Day will be tough for her, it is the first Mother’s Day since losing her own mother. But her mother lives on through my wonderful wife, after all, she is the mother she is today to my children because of the wonderful mother she was blessed to have influence her.

I know it may be tough for my wife to think of today as a “happy Mother’s Day”, but I hope and pray she feels the love I have for her, and the love our amazing kids have for her, and the fact that our daughters will one day be incredible mothers themselves because of the influence she is having on them now.

Happy Mother’s Day, babe, there is no one I’d rather have as the mom for my kids!

I love to cook!

I do most of our cooking here at the house, not because my wife can’t cook—she’s actually a great cook—I just happen to love to cook.

Tonight I made Spinach Ravioli with Alfredo sauce…we love it!

As I was draining the water off the pasta, I dropped the strainer and about half of the pasta went down the kitchen sink.

BUMMER!

After I dished up everyone’s plates, there was only one (1) piece of ravioli left for my plate…

Great dinner, huh?!?

However, my sweet daughters each gave me one of their ravioli to eat.

Aren’t my girls sweet!!!!

mother.in.law

Early this morning, my amazing mother-in-law went to live with Jesus.

She raised seven (yes, 7) amazing kids.

She has some of the most amazing grandkids around.

She has taken such good care of her family over the years.

She loved her husband
(and I can so picture them dancing together in heaven tonight).

She leaves behind a legacy that anyone (and everyone) would love to have.

She was amazing…She will be missed…She is forever loved!

I’m thankful for my amazing, beautiful, loving, caring, funny, awesome wife. She’s always been there for me, no matter what we’ve faced, she’s always had my back! I love you babe and I’m thankful God graced my life with you!

i’m.thinking.arby’s

Last night we decided to run to Arby’s for a quick dinner before the kids went to their young adult/youth service at church. We ordered our food and I tried to pay with my debit card. It would not go through. The young girl working the register called her manager over, who also tried to run my card, it would not go through. Next we tried Star’s card, it too would not go through. The manager mentioned that the error code she was receiving was one she had never seen before. They tried running my card through the drive through register and received the same unknown code.

At this point, I began to think something is wrong with our account and we will NOT be getting dinner at Arby’s tonight.

I ask Zach, my son, to try and run his card through. While his account is at the same bank, it is his own account and not connected with ours. His card as well received the same error code.

At this point, I’m apologizing to the manager and coming to the realization that we won’t be eating dinner here when the manager says to me, “We’ve already got most of your food ready now, I’m just gonna give your food to you tonight. I’ve never seen this code and I’m going to put a call into our IT department.” I thank her for her offer and decline, but she insists that we take the food.

After dinner I stopped by a gas station to fill up Star’s car with gas – my card worked just fine, I also stopped by the grocery store to pick up a few items, my card again worked just fine.

My girls and I where chatting about it after and we decided that this was just God’s way of smiling on our family and letting us know that He is still with us and watching over our family during this time that I’m not working and looking for a church to serve at again.

It’s the small things, but they don’t go unnoticed, thanks God for caring for our family!

sunday.number.4

Tomorrow is my 4th Sunday in a row not leading worship. I must admit, it has been nice having a few weeks off. I’ve enjoyed just being in church with my family, sitting with my wife and kids for the entire service, driving to church with them, leaving church together. This is a good thing.

I’ve also enjoyed watching gifted and anointed worship leaders take the reigns and lead the church into some pretty incredible worship experiences. I’ve even picked up on a couple things that will work to my advantage by incorporating them into my worship leading.

I am, however, really missing being part of the team up on stage leading the church into the presence of God each weekend. I simply can not wait for God to open a door for me to once again jump back in with both feet.

For those who follow this blog, please don’t stop praying for the Forbis clan, your prayers mean much more than you’ll ever know…and they are felt!

success.or.failure?

Yesterday morning at 5am, I was woken by a phone call from my son, Kyle. He had a tire blow out on his truck on his way to work. He was sitting on the side of the freeway (in downtown Phoenix) and needed some help.

Now, I’m not sure if I should win a “Father of the Year” award or a “Father Failure of the Year” award…

Father of the Year

I got out of bed, made a quick cup of coffee in my Keurig coffee maker, hoped in the car and made the 40 minute drive to downtown to help Kyle change his flat tire…yeah, I’m that good of a father.

Father Failure of the Year

Maybe I should actually get a father failure award, because I had not adequately taught Kyle how to change a tire. Seems he did most things right, he got far off the freeway and away from traffic. Knew where his jack was and also where his spare was located…what he didn’t know was how to remove his spare and where to place his jack on the truck’s frame.

Anyone Want to Vote?

Father of the Year, or Father Failure of the Year? You be the judge…

missing.this.about.fall

Today I read a tweet from someone I follow who mentioned they were at an Apple Orchard having a great time with his family. My mind IMMEDIATELY went back to all the wonderful times we used to have as a family every fall in Michigan when we’d visit a local apple orchard, take a hay ride out into the orchard, pick some wonderfully fresh apples, pick some pumpkins, ride the hay ride back to the front, enjoy a nice cup of freshly made hot apple cider and some fresh and still warm donuts…

I miss having a true Fall Season so, so, so very much!
