I really enjoy the NFL, I’m a big fan! But…it seems these days the “in” thing to do is try and strip the ball first, then work on getting a tackle. More and more often I watch the defensive players try over and over to strip the ball from the offensive player, while the offensive player racks up a few extra yards before finally getting tackled. During this year’s playoffs, I have watched guys get 5 additional yards as, on many occasions, more than one defensive player tries to strip the ball, instead of just making the tackle.
What really blows me away, is hearing the play by play guys talking about how the defensive player is doing the right thing by trying to strip the ball…
Several of the runs I’ve watched, the offensive player ended up getting a first down, or at the least only a couple short yards from the first down.
I totally understand that I don’t totally understand the “ins and outs” of football…I just get tired of players not making the tackle and trying over and over and over again to strip the ball…most of the time unsuccessfully.
That’s all I have to say about that…not that anyone cares.
